Gaitania, nestled within the Planadas municipality of Tolima, holds a significant place in the region's history. Planadas, with its storied past, has woven a tapestry of charm around its people and the broader department. Once a refuge for political prisoners of the Liberal party, Planadas evolved into a harmonious community where both Liberal and Conservative parties fostered amicable relations. This spirit of camaraderie became legendary, endearing the people of Planadas to the nation at large.
The coffee from Gaitania is cultivated by the indigenous community NasaWesx, adding a layer of cultural richness to its origin. The NasaWex community resides across various indigenous territories spanning Cauca, Huila, and Tolima, contributing to the diverse fabric of Colombian heritage.
